MENTAL HEALTH AND ME.
For myself I have struggled with anxiety,
and been depressed. I've come a long way
in regards to dealing with it, finding ways
to work with it. I understand it will always be
there and that's OK.
For me anxiety made me feel like I was in
a bubble that I didn't want to pop.
If anyone was to try and talk to me, that
bubble would pop and I would be falling
through the sky.
The times I would struggle would be
very sudden, it could be self doubt, it could
be social anxiety, it could be fear. I would
freeze, I would find myself holding my breathe,
I would feel a sadness wash over me. I would
just want to curl up in a corner cry and have
no one around me. Life was dull. I couldn't
control the feelings.
I would run, I would call in sick, I would
start arguments, I would come across moody,
I wouldn't leave my room, I would cancel plans.
I wouldn't sleep, I would feel empty.
& sometimes it would be very dark. With the thoughts
of having no place here.
Today I still do struggle with anxiety but
I've learnt ways in which help me deal with
it on a daily basis. Practices that I have put in
place for everyday and also for when I feel
that sense coming over me.
Practices that help ME are;
- Find someone to talk to. (Whether that is
someone you know and trust, or someone
that you don't know such as therapist/counsellor/helpline)
- Daily meditation using Headspace 10 mins per day
- A good bedtime routine - For better sleep
(poor or inadequate sleep can cause irritability
and stress, while healthy sleep can enhance well-being)
- Going for a walk everyday (early morning normally to
get that vitamin D)
- Reading everyday - (Normally a self help book to
continue to better myself)
- Practicing Yoga (Yoga can enhance your mood and
overall sense of well-being)
- Clean and a healthy diet (Following a healthy pattern
of eating is linked to better mental wellbeing in general)
- Journaling and setting daily and monthly intentions
(A chance for me to be creative and have a purpose)
- Cut down screen time (I completely come off social
media for 2 months. Now I delete the Instagram
and Facebook aps and only redownload when I want
to upload something)
- Therapy - I use better help I find it easier to talk
to a stranger when I need to get something of my chest
Charities that you can go to and also donate to help
them carry on supporting.
Remember to always be kind to your mind.
